The Campanelli Youth Chorus class, sponsored by Vallejo Choral Society (VCS) and administered by Greater Vallejo Recreation District (GVRD), offers an enriching choral education and performance experience to school-age children throughout Solano County and beyond.
The youth chorus class empowers students to find their voice and develop an appreciation for singing and its power to lift the human spirit. Students gain a foundation in the choral arts, including musicianship, sight singing, and pitch and vocal training. The class concludes with a recital and performance with the Vallejo Choral Society.
The class is open to children ages 7 through 17 throughout Vallejo and surrounding communities, and no audition or previous music experience is required.
Instructor John Montanero is a musician, choral director, and music educator with over two decades of experience working with singers of all ages. He currently conducts the Schola at Contra Costa College in San Pablo, where he has been an instructor in the Music Department for 20 years. In addition, he teaches music and conducts the student choir at St. Paul’s K-8 School in San Pablo, and he is Music Director at St. Anne in Walnut Creek. A Vallejo resident for the past 24 years, John has served as the Music Director at St. Vincent Ferrer Church and St. Basil Parish. John earned his Bachelor of Music degree from Temple University’s Esther Boyer College of Music in Philadelphia, and his Master of Music degree at the University of the Pacific’s Conservatory of Music (Stockton), studying voice, choral conducting, and orchestral conducting.
