Welcome to a new season of our chorus. As our community continues to grow, it is important that we take a moment to affirm the values that allow us to do our best work together.

This Code of Conduct reflects our shared commitment to respect, professionalism, and artistic focus. These expectations support a positive rehearsal environment, clear leadership, and music-making at the highest level.

Our Shared Commitment

Our chorus is dedicated to providing a safe, respectful, and professional environment for all singers, staff, volunteers, and guests. Courtesy, mutual respect, and appropriate boundaries are expected in all interactions.

Any behavior that is rude, demeaning, intimidating, suggestive, intrusive, or otherwise inappropriate is not acceptable and will not be tolerated within the chorus community.

Respect for the Artistic Director

The Artistic Director is the chorus’s artistic leader and is entrusted with guiding the ensemble’s musical vision and performance standards.

  • Interactions with the Artistic Director should be professional and respectful.
  • Observe proper decorum and personal space at all times.
  • The Artistic Director’s role and authority are to be honored in rehearsals, performances, and all chorus-related activities.

Artistic Authority and Communication

The Artistic Director has full authority over all artistic matters, including repertoire, interpretation, rehearsal process, ensemble configuration, and performance standards.

  • The Artistic Director guides all artistic aspects of the choir, including repertoire, interpretation, rehearsal process, ensemble configuration, and performance standards.
  • To support a positive and efficient rehearsal environment, artistic decisions are not discussed or debated during rehearsals or performances.
  • Members may bring requests, suggestions, or concerns to the Board or speak with the Artistic Director at appropriate times outside of rehearsal.
  • The Board ensures that member feedback is considered and shared with the Artistic Director when appropriate.

Attendance and Punctuality

Timeliness is an essential professional courtesy and a sign of respect for the ensemble’s work.

  • Members are expected to arrive on time and prepared for rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and concert calls.
  • Members of the chamber ensemble are held to especially high standards of punctuality and preparedness, given the collaborative and concentrated nature of their work.
  • In cases of excessive absences, the Artistic Director will determine if a singer is performance-ready.

A Shared Responsibility

By participating in the chorus, all members affirm their commitment to these expectations and to fostering a culture of respect, professionalism, and artistic excellence.
